Default Teacher Writes 'Stupid' on Child's Forehead

OVERTON CO., Tenn. - An Overton County teacher has been suspended without pay after writing the word "stupid" on a student's forehead.

Director of Overton County Schools Matt Eldridge told Nashville's News 2, the teacher Alex Boles teaches eighth grade at Allons Elementary School.

The first year teacher has been removed from the school and has been instructed not to have any contact with the student.

"We suspended him and spoken to him and he did admit it. He said he did it as a joke, but there are limits to what you can joke about," Eldridge said.

According to Eldridge, Boles wrote the word backwards on the student's forehead so the child could read it when looking in a mirror.

Eldridge said he was informed of the incident from another employee of the school system last Wednesday.

"Initially he was laughing about it I think but I've heard a little change in that also, you got to be real careful with children even a joke can go too far and hurt children," he said.

On Thursday, parents that Nashville's News 2 spoke with said they were shocked when they learned of the incident.

"I was very disappointed first of all and it really upset me that we'd have a teacher in our school system to treat another child that way," said parent Jamie Simmons.

She continued, "You're supposed to make them feel good about themselves and things like that and if that were my child, I probably wouldn't have handled it in a nice way."

Since this incident more allegations against the teacher have surfaced.

The incident remains under investigation.

This is inexcusable. Someone needs to write "Fired" on this teacher's forehead.

This is what you get with the teacher's unions - it's almost impossible to fire a teacher once they have "tenure."

It said he was a first year teacher, so tenure shouldn't have kicked in yet and he shouldn't be allowed to stick around until it does.
