If I ever buy a hardware porn item - be it a video tape or a DVD - I'll be sure to check it out. Just checked out my Cisco router at home, btw. Made in Taiwan. All the kitchen stuff is Electrolux or Siemens. The tv set is a Sony. Furniture all local. The only thing I can point to as American is my genuine OS/2-mouse mat, and that just because I dilberted ("make a better living stealing office supplies!")it from Oak Ridge when I left. And now that I think about it, I wouldn't place any bets that thing was actually made in America.
So the real American exports these days are Hollywood movies and licensed software? Are there any American hardware producers that still a) produce in America and b) do so for internationally competitive consumption?
