Default Is the transportation economy crashing?

So I keep reading all these reports about how international trade is coming to a screeching halt - excess container ship capacity is piling up, train, boat, road transports are apparently taking a dive. The Baltic Dry Shipping idx is at its lowest since its inception. Very worrisome, given that transportation is a not a leading but a mature indicator.

I've been seeing similar reports. MOre indication that the rosy pronouncements of our intellectual superiors regarding the economy may not be as accurate as they think.

I've known this "great economy" is ersatz for years. There's been no actual "recovery" it's just the largest economic bubble mankind has ever devised, fueled by $30 billion of ersatz money pumped in by the federal reserve every month via 0% interest rate, as a "stimulus" Obama never had to get passed through Congress.

As soon as the fed raised rates even just a smidge all hell broke loose in the stock market, which was partially covered politically by the troubles in China and the idiot reporting on it. But I've already seen some wise economists who write that they understand the China issues were a symptom, not the cause, of the recent stock market failures. They point to just what i have known all along and have said - the fake economy.

A huge correction is coming, right now it's only been a big speed bump but already we're seeing big companies like Wal-Mart scale back their operations, closing 100s of locations laying off 1000s of workers. We have at least 30 million people either unemployed and have given up looking for work, or are underemployed. We have this massive albatross they call Obamacare starting to really affect the economy, and we have a Fed who plans on incrementing the interest rate up slowly, hoping to avoid the really BIG crash and instead hoping for just, more speed bumps. Add to all of this the truly anemic "growth" of under 2 percent and you have all the fuel needed for the perfect storm of a huge crash looming.

All of this can easily explain the big slowdown in international transportation and reports on same. That's part of the big speed bump.

Of course, when the big correction comes it will be timed so they can blame it on Republicans.

Hell Japan just went negative with it's interest rates. That is some serious desperation.

It's hard for me to say at the moment. Rates are down, yes, but that is typical for this time of year. Freight has been steadier than I've often seen in the first quarter so we will see. I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary, but this is the time of year that a drop would be harder to notice.

Well, if it was quite as bad as they keep saying at bloomy's, I'd expect you too see it even with a seasonal down tick.

He wouldn't see it as much because he is a lessee not just a company hack driver. It's the unionized, regional drivers who are taking the first hits. Independent guys like trlrtrash, the company they lease the truck from has them on load priority. They keep those guys loaded and running.

Three of my railroad engineer/conductor friends have told me freight rail traffic is way down starting right after Christmas.

Probably come to a head after the election so that the MSM can then blame the Republican President. Or, if Hillary wins, they can blame Wall Street.

That's the plan, as I alluded to earlier. They can control the crashes.

Generally speaking, there is a lot of hand wringing that goes on in the transportation industry right after xmas. Everybody is scaling back inventory. I've been doing this for almost 20 years now so I don't pay it much attention unless it hits my wallet. So far it hasn't.
