He's funny. When I first come home he will get up on the couch and put his paws on my leg and lay his head down and wait for me to pet him. Once I do he crawls up in my lap like that and lets me pet him until he's has enough and then he wants to lay there and lick my hand.

He has gratitude for you saving him. He knows you call the shots in the house. He's also welcoming the weary hunter who's come home after a long and fruitless, hunt.

He admires your dedication and effort on the hunt, and is comforting you for not being very good at it - you never bring home a kill, you see. He doesn't think you're a very good hunter but you try hard and always make it home.
