You mean like splitting the atom? Just as men of the last century really had no business splitting the atom, men of this century have no business messing around with 'God particles.' Humanity has not evolved enough for either. That's no joke!

Perhaps this will lead to vast new energy resources; or new modes of travel, open access to new dimensions of reality.

Would it be better exploited when lack of essential resources combined with backwards social polices lead us into some future dark age in which only the most aggressively powerful control the technology?

Atomic energy, fission, is primitive compared to fusion, which releases no radioactivity. It's about combinant forces not explosive forces. IMO what this type of research would lead to is fusion not fission.

I fear the Luddites more than I fear the scientists.
